I listened to a lot of different music when I was working on the Crazy Faith songs: Dylan and the Band's basement tapes (inspired by Greil Marcus' book).

Just recently I've been perusing the poetry of John Donne and found a poem that I think presages in amazing ways some of the issues of the contemporary songwriter. It's called "The Triple Fool":

I am two fools, I know,

For loving, and for saying so

In whining poetry;
