One of my favorite scenes in recent films is the segment in "The Commitments" where the band is interviewing for new players. As the door opens on each new fresh-faced hopeful, the same interrogation is flung out: "Who're yer Inflooences?" A question we should all be prepared for...

Here are a few random Influences of mine:

MyinFlooences: Spookier strains of traditional American fiddle music (Luther Strong, Ed Haley, John Salyer, Hiram Stamper), Joseph Spence, Martin Carthy, Olivier Messiaen, Naftule Brantwein, Bobbie Zimmerman, Clare fiddler and flute player Joe Murtagh, Balinese gamelan, Madagascar valiha, Laotian mouth-harp, French hurdy gurdy (vielle le roux), Bulgarian gaida, and Doc Boggs (not in that order).

The first albums I heard "under the influence" were: Jimi Hendrix-Axis Bold as Love, Van Morrison-Astral Weeks, Bob Dylan-Highway 61 Revisited. God bless older sisters.

The first albums I bought were "Changing Horses" Incredible String Band, John Sebastian, and Tom Rush.
