Mark Graham and Tom Sauber
To kick off our new series, we're honored to present two of
my favorite musicians, Mark Graham and Tom Sauber. Mark is flat
out one of the best harmonica players and funniest songwriters
in a faux traditional ballad idiom on the planet. With Bob Childs,
Mark and I were even briefly in a band together, the famous
Shameless Seamus and the Shimmering Shamrocks, whose debut and
concluding performance was a 14-hour St. Paddy's Day stint at
a pub in Philadelphia... Mark has St. Paddy's day gig horror
stories and other tall tales galore with which to regale you.
With guitarist and fellow King of Mongrel Folk Orville Johnson,
Mark was a past performer at Anchor East.
This trip he's joined by a wonderful multi-instrumentalist,
Tom Sauber, who was one of the influential musicians on the
scene when I was just starting to play in Southern California
in the mid-1970s. Though most recently known for his work with
Tom, Brad and Alice (Brad Leftwich and Alice Gerrard, that is)
his contributions to traditional music have been many and varied
over the years. I can't imagine a more exhilarating combination
of talent and wry humor for a night of the best of old time
music.
