Co-writing is one of the great ways of learning the craft of songwriting. In Nashville co-writing is like getting a manicure (except you don't get a manicure twelve times in one week) and they may take it too far. Up here in New England, co-writing is still a novelty among singer-songwriters. I think co-writing need not be crass and commercial in intent and can be quite a journey of discovery for the writers concerned. I've been honored to work with some great writers and look forward to many more collaborations in future. Lisa Aschmann and I have also been preparing a lot of notes about the process of co-writing.
